Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia

What is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is an enlarged breast condition that can be seen in men at any age. The condition can be the result of hormonal changes, heredity, obesity, or the use of some medications. Gynecomastia can cause emotional discomfort and create a self-confidence problem. In some cases, men may even avoid physical activities and intimacy to hide their status. But it is a problem that can be solved with an easy surgical treatment.

Gynecomastia can sometimes affect one or both breasts. In the operation, the method is selected according to the patient's problem. Only for patients with fat accumulation, the liposuction method is used, and the accumulated fat is removed. In patients with enlargement of the breast tissue, the breast tissue is removed with a small surgical incision. However, since this incision will be made around the nipple, it becomes invisible after healing. The operation takes place under anesthesia in hospital conditions and takes an average of 1-3 hours.

Who can have gynecomastia treatment done?
It can be applied to adult men who have enlarged breasts for various reasons and are uncomfortable with it. It can also be applied to young people in the developmental age, but since growth will continue during the development process, it cannot be known for sure whether there will be regrowth in the breasts after the operation. Apart from this, if the patient has a chronic illness or a regular medication, he/she should inform the doctor before the procedure.

Post-operative process
It is normal to have swelling or bruising in the operation area in the first days. These pass spontaneously in 5-7 days and the patient continues his/her daily life after an average of 1 week. Medications that the doctor will prescribe also help the process to be painless and easy.
