Gingivoplasty & Gingivectomy

Surgical removal of gingival excess is called gingivectomy, and the process of correcting and shaping the gingival contour is called gingivoplasty. With the gingivoplasty procedure, the gums shortened by the gingivectomy procedure are provided with a symmetrical and more aesthetic appearance. Gingivectomy is a method that is frequently applied in cases where it is desired to extend the length of the teeth that are shorter than they should be and to provide gingival symmetry.

Gum aesthetics is not only performed for aesthetic purposes, it is also applied to order the tooth order as it should be. Since gingival diseases are diseases that disrupt the tooth structure and cause tooth loss, their treatment brings many advantages.

Gum aesthetics or pink aesthetics are planned according to the gingival structure of the patient after the specialist physician examination. Gingivoplasty is a shaping procedure. With gingivectomy, the excess parts of the gums are removed and reshaped with gingivoplasty. Gingivectomy and gingivoplasty are usually performed with hand tools. But it can also be done with electrosurgical instruments, laser and/or rotary instruments. Special instruments with angled edges are also used by the periodontist to reach around the tooth.

Local anesthesia is used to numb the gums. Gingivectomy can take a few minutes or an hour. The length of time depends on the amount of tissue to be removed. Gingivoplasties, on the other hand, take a few minutes.
